Definition and importance
Teaching: the Latin word insignīre means "to mark, to distinguish, to point". It is the same origin of "sign" or "signification".
The act of teaching cannot be restricted to a matter of transferring knowledge or the mere process of sharing contents. Furthermore, it implies working ways of thinking, reflecting, interpreting, understanding and intervening. It assumes action, as the students, who are the agents of their own understanding, establish relationships among several kinds of subjects, yielding new knowledge.
Therefore, education must rest on dialogical, ethical and inclusive relationships, considering development differences and cultural and social diversity, committing itself to student’s thorough formation.
From this perspective, IFTM seeks to build knowledge and human enhancement of students through teaching based on interaction, mediation between teachers and students and always prizes interdisciplinarity, flexibility, contextualization and updating.
Aiming to respect individual aspects of students in the acquisition of knowledge, skills, values and attitudes that can enable them to full citizenship and also for job qualification, education at Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia do Triângulo Mineiro is guided by the principles and purposes of the National Education, described in Title II of Law No. 9394/96 laying down Guidelines and Bases of National Education.
IFTM also considers the aspects defined in the Law No. 11,892 / 2008, which deals with the creation of the Federal Institutes. Those aspects present characteristics of integration and verticalization from basic to professional and higher education. This work is carried out with an emphasis on local, regional and national socioeconomic development, articulating work, science, and culture to promote the emancipation of humanity.
Education must be organized according to the National Curriculum Guidelines, for the construction of skills associated to professional profiles of their courses. Allied to research and extension, teaching is developed in an articulated and integrated approach, broadening knowledge and inserting students in the local community, making the institution and students important agents in the transformation and in regional development.
Thus, teaching while an expansion of knowledge, guidance and indication of path and opportunity to prepare for a profession and for social inclusion is extremely important. All this is essential, taking into account the strengthening of science and technology and the progress in social and economic issues arising from its interrelation with the actions of research and extension experiences.
The general purpose of education in IFTM is to provide a comprehensive and contextualized formation that encourages the expansion and application of knowledge, principles and values that guide citizenship.
Allied to the guidelines prescribed in the laws governing the education of the country, the guidelines that lead the teaching of IFTM are also grounded in legal documents that support the specific guidelines, given the peculiar characteristics of the institutes.
Education policies of IFTM are based on pedagogical principles of interdisciplinarity, contextualization, autonomy, flexibility, inclusion and indivisibility of teaching, research and extension, beyond the legally oriented verticalization.
Considering the concepts, the limits and the potential of policies for national education in its different levels, stages and modalities, as well as the indication of perspectives that allow quality education for everybody, IFTM seeks to contribute to a more just, democratic and supportive society based on ethical principles and respect for diversity.Fim do conteúdo da página
